Every
one thinks that taking the taxi is easy. Yes it is easy in developed
countries but it is another story when you take the taxi in developing
countries. Taxi drivers always have some tricks to get the money more
than it supposed to be. What about taking taxi in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh
City? Vietnam is one of the developing countries and of course Vietnam
is not an exception in taxi stories. Here are some of the tips that it
would be useful when you taking taxi in Hanoi, Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City)
or any another big cities in Vietnam.
-
Always have the address where you would
like to go. It would be best if you know roughly how far the
distance is or how to get there so no one can cheat you.
-
Always look for the taxi in good
condition and the taxi driver should wear uniform or at least look
neat.
-
If you take taxi inside cities, the
price you have to pay is shown on the meter clock and no other fee
is applied.
-
Always make sure you do not forget any
thing on the taxi as the chances to get back are very low.
-
Make sure you have small money as taxi
drivers sometimes cheat you by saying they do not have small notes
to return you.
-
Always remember that the fare you have
to pay is for a taxi not per person. This is another trick that you
need to take care as sometimes taxi drivers may say the shown price
is for each person.
-
When an argument happens, always stay
calm and call the phone number that is pasted on the doors of the
taxi for assistance or police number at: 08 113 for Saigon or 04 133
for Hanoi. For other provinces: province code + 113. If the situation
is very bad, just pay the price, write down the plate number then
make a report to the policeman as tourists are well protected in Vietnam.
-
If you go to a certain restaurant,
hotel or a shop, do not take the taxi driver's advice of taking you to
another better place. They will get commission for taking you there and you
will be suffered.
